A term given to a character, usually a Fighter with high defense, who has the job of taking all the damage for a party.

A Cleric is often useful to a tanker, as he/she can heal the damage being taken by the tanker.

Tankers need not be Fighters

  • a Cleric who tanks is called a Clanker
  • a Mage who tanks is called a Mank
  • an Archer who tanks is called a Tarcher

Tanking Styles

In an AoE attack, the tank runs through a mob of idling monsters, and pulls them back, usually to a waiting party, in order to defeat the group. The tank has the job of taking all the damage from the bad guys and holding on to the aggression by using a mock-styled attack.

In a Kingdom Quest, the tanker usually uses a mock-styled attack to increased the aggression between themselves and mobs, again to generate a higher aggression than anyone else on the field, so that only they take damage.

Clerics may take aggro by healing the characters being attacked by the mobs. If the aggro generated by healing becomes more than the aggro generated by the other character's damage, the Cleric takes aggro and becomes the Clank.

Mages may take aggro due to their high-spike damage. It is not preferable to have a Mage tank due to their low defense and HP.

Archers may take aggro due to their DoTs and high single-target damage. It is not preferable to have an Archer tank due to their low defense and HP.
