I have to admit, Hess brought up a good point. What good came out of legalizing tobacco and alcohol? Learn from the past. If anything, these should be taken away, not add more shit to the list.

By making alcohol illegal (again, in the USA.), then there will be more crime. IIRC, they did ban alcohol in the USA, which was the 18th Amendment to the U.S. But they repealed it since there was more organized crime for in response for illegal alcohol. And we don't want that to happen again, do we?

So, we learn from our past, and they still legalize alcohol.

There can be no "right" to slavery. The right to smoke pot won't affect your freedom, but the right to kill everybody would. There's the difference.

It appears many people in this thread would prefer if we lived in a more facist-leaning society where our freedoms are curtailed "for our own good". And how is giving someone the right to smoke pot, climb behind a wheel of a car, and hit my 17 year old son head-on, not taking away rights? It would take away the rights of my son, it would take his life.

The deal with the rights and freedom was about having the freedom to make choices that only affect the person making the decision. Allowing the freedom to chose between smoking pot and not smoking pot, does affect other people. Just like choosing to drive drunk affects other people. Hrae says that it should be his right to choose. My point was that to give us the choice would affect more than just one person. Go back and reread it again and you will see where we started going in that direction.

To tell you the truth, I've heard more drunk driving cases than high driving, which doesnt make sense because people who smoke in their vehicle tend to just park in a spot and hotbox. I'm not supporting either side but if we're doing comparisons, I'll tell you that alcohol kills more a year than weed does.

That would be incorrect two of my friends got high and drove their car off a bridge at the age of 17. Death because of POT. Use if you want to but don't tell me it doesn't kill anyone cause I have two friends in a grave because of POT. Ohhh yeah their death was labeled a car accident but they'd be alive if they weren't high.

Check page 8 onward. There are cases of people needed emergency treatments due to MJ, MJ teen users are more likely to be depressed and have suicidal thoughts. It may not have killed them directly, but more unhappy kids surely isn't something we want?

Okay, that it too ridiculous to even debate. You cannot have total freedom. Society has to have rules and people to govern those rules. You call it curtailing, others call it protection, others call it restrictions, others call it law, call it what you want, but total freedom would lead to total destruction.

I'm not advocating anarchy, here. The rights of someone extend as far as the rights of someone else. Period. You're making strawmen arguements. I never said "Everyone should toke up and go driving!" If someone does that, their rights will be curtailed via the justice system. Your son could get killed by any number of things but that doesn't mean everything should be banned. I'm a parent, too, but I know we can't nerf the world. Life doesn't come with bubblewrap.
