Though I enjoy some anime, I could never see myself actually going to a con. Some things I can do without.

I've only been to one and I feel that you really need to cosplay to enjoy it. I mean, I enjoyed it but not as much as I feel I would have otherwise. But yeah, the main part of the thing is for the social aspect. The one I went to had a large open area of steps where everyone congregated and talked.
