I'm an archer and I've gotten one of the best boxes so far so no. The first time I completed Mara, my chest was empty. I used to think that if you open the chest while still in the KQ map, it will be empty and if you open it back in town, it won't. It's worked for me so far but others still say they get empty boxes in town so I don't know.
