Religion doesnt do that... the people do. though you could argue that religion and faith are different...
My perspective is that religion/faith is fine, if looked at correctly. People misinterpret it, but it can be something really beautiful and true if its looked at in the right way.
Example: genetics. A perfectly pure, good thing. However, nazis take it and use it to justify anti-semetism, therefore corrupting it, and making it something that it wasn't initially meant for.
lame example, but its all i can think of at this time of night.

Of course i wouldnt. I think that, seeing as the bible was written by humans, certain parts could be twisted and corrupted. Of course the argument that one loose thread leads to the whole thing unraveling, but there's really no credence to that.
Also, there's the theory that Jesus's coming canceled out the laws of moses, as he stated himself.

Exactly. So this is really a rather pointless argument, seeing as neither side has proof, isnt it?
My initial point was thus:
Religion, or faith, rather, is a safe, pure thing. Its corruption and bigotry within human beings, along with our resistance to thinking for ourselves, that makes it a tool of hate.
Quote:

"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven."
-Matthew 5:43-45

Doesnt exactly relate, but its general message does.
