Marriage and character deletion

I was wondering if anyone knows what happens when the character you're married to is deleted.

While I was playing today I came across a female lvl 48 fighter with the name of the guy I'm married to on my mage. He hasn't been on in ages and I haven't talked to him in ages. Seeing as there can't be duplicate names on a server his fighter must've been deleted. But when I checked my mage we were still married.

He might have just had a sex change, and not necessarily a character deletion..

seeing that both of them are still fighters.. he didn't de-level right?

He did de-level, he was 72. It doesn't really matter to me as my mage is inactive atm, I was just wondering.
