need help with internet connection

i dont' have money or feel like buying anything so i was hoping to use this spare router to do it somehow. there's apparently people that have managed to >_<

Hmm, you could try wiring the laptop and desktop to your router, then in the Network settings, you could try briding the connection. Might work. I'm not really a networking person. I just dabble.

i tried that but i can't figure out a way to get the internet connection between them through the router.

I've never done it, but there is a feature of XP called Internet Connection Sharing. You might want to google that a bit before I lead you totally astray.

Google something called an ad-hoc network. Don't know much about it myself but that's what a friend said he did in a situation like yours.
