need help with internet connection
my wireless switch on my laptop is messed up and instead of spending money to buy a usb wireless thing for it i was hoping to somehow connect it to my desktop through ethernet and use the internet from my desktop.
there's apparently a way to do this using a router but so far all fail. searching the internet isn't helping either. anything i've run into either doesnt' work or are incomplete |
If you're going a wired route, why not just plug your laptop into the router? What OS are you using?
the rotuer is downstairs. i would like to try to get an ethernet cable long enough to reach but i feel that would cause too many other problems xD
using xp on both |
Do you have another router on hand?
yes
Ach, your desktop is wireless, isn't it?
yea, desktop's connected to the internet wirelessly through the other network. hoping to use the ethernet on it to connect my laptop though.
You'll need a crossover cable.
i dont' have money or feel like buying anything so i was hoping to use this spare router to do it somehow. there's apparently people that have managed to >_<
Hmm, you could try wiring the laptop and desktop to your router, then in the Network settings, you could try briding the connection. Might work. I'm not really a networking person. I just dabble.
