Min. and max. More importantly max. Could be like a big range, like uh 100-500/600 words or something. I dunno.

The fact that some people voted without reading all entries would kinda skew the results. And you can't force them to read every single bit of it before voting (not that we can really monitor that, but..). Just kind of a shame that some entries were not read due to their length. I guess that could be part of it, adjusting your length to make it "nice" to read (not saying it wasn't a nice read, because I read it!) for everyone, but.. uh... I'm only assuming that most people here would like to read short stories.. I dunno if people are meant/allowed to submit things that are 2 pages long or something.

Minimum limit was only suggested because the contest is write a story contest which I assume should have .. at least a bit of text.. but then again I don't there are any entries too short this week anyway so wasn't really a problem this week.

I dunno, I'm just rambling now LOL.

Ummm.. I think saying, "You can only have this many words" is just way too limiting.

Maybe some people should just not vote if they are too damn lazy to actually read a few paragraphs. Since we can't stop them though.. ehh.

But limiting a writer like that is just.. totally not fun and kind of not fair.

EDIT: Short stories? You realize that a short story could be 5pages? We read short stories in English and they are 5-10pages long.

Of course there isn't going to be stories that long on here. The limit on these should be "Whatever you can fit in 1 post." Obviously, thats 'too long' for some people but oh well. Just don't limit the writers on here to a certain amount of words.

EDIT2: And I'm guessing that Lirange and whoever else thought #1 was too long didn't vote for 1. YET, 1 is still winning.

Yeah, as long as those who are willing to look at the quality of a story instead of length outnumber their inverse, we should be fine.

I personally don't think word limits are no fun or makes it very very limiting.

In fact, I reckon word limits really brings out the better writers because it's often harder to create a short story that is actually good. Sure, short stories may be 5 pages now, but in this case, I doubt a suitable "short story" would be 5 pages long since you won't even be able to complete the story in 1 post.

how would shortness improve quality? it decreases the amount of descriptive words you can use (because non-plot-essential words will be the first to go) and it limits the amount of creativity the writer can put into the story.

I personally also liked #3 and #4. I would have voted for either of them if it had been a bit longer (not for the sake of length) but delivered a bit more insight into the plot. With that said, none of the entries really told me why she was bleeding in the first place. =/

#4 did hint at the cause and it would be my pick if it were a bit more descriptive about the situation.

EDIT: About the word count: possibly, and just possibly, not a good idea because it limits imagination and inhibits the flow of one's writing. As this is a creative piece, not argumentative or scientific, an upper word limit would not be desirable.

Only limit them to what they can actually fit in one post.
