It seems what I have said has still not clicked. I will repeat myself once more.

Do not skimp on the graphics card if you want to play games.

Sacrifice on the processor if you must cut costs, but the power supply and the graphics card are essential to gaming computers.

o_o AMD has over heating problems? i've actually never had a problem with that besides when my video card was too close to other cards. that caused everything to over heat though.

then again i don't do overclocking and all that stuff.

I know I need a good graphics card which is why I'm asking if so and so is good enough. And I really don't want to go over 600. Seems like the only way to get the whatever graphics card is spending over 600. And I have no idea how to build a computer.

The solutions you are proposing are all lower end cards, which are priced competitively at $50 to $100. A decent card's price begins at around $150.

If you need to cut costs, the processor is where it can be done. A cheap dual core will suffice, as the computer is only being used to play games. If you were to do, say, CAD or graphics design, you might want to consider upgrading.

The PSU is also critical. Go name brand.

iBuyPower and Tiger Direct have already been suggested. Research a little, find out what motherboard is compatible with your graphics card, and buy a cheap computer. Then replace the PSU and graphics card. Chances are you won't get a good case, but I don't think that's important right now.

It is extremely difficult to build a good gaming desktop with $500.

And iSpark: If you don't know what the thread is about, is there a point in posting that you don't know?

Hm.... I think, in theory, it should be possible.

My laptop was around $800. Not quite sure what video card it has (NVIDEO GEForce 8400M GS? Not sure what that means) and it runs games pretty well. Not top of the line, I'm sure. But pretty good for what I need it for.

Would this be good?

AMD Athlon™ II X2 250 CPU
• 2GB DDR2-800 Memory
• NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT 512MB
• 500GB 7200 RPM HDD
• 22X Double Layer DVD+/-RW

But instead, replace the graphics card with a ATI Radeon HD 4850 - 512MB (same one in that link you showed me) making the total $490? Though it doesn't come with a os but I can always download that from this computer and put it into that computer right?
