Granted there are plenty of actors and actresses out there to fill the needs of filmmakers, but Paul Newman was great for more than just his acting abilities.
Paul Newman founded Newman's Own products, a successful line of salad dressings, cookies and other foods, which generates hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenue for which all profits are donated to charity through Newman's Own Foundation.
He also started Hole in the Wall Camps for children with life-threatening illnesses as well as the Scott Newman Foundation for the prevention of drug abuse (named for his son, who died of an overdose).
He brought all-natural food products to grocery stores and practiced being green by recycling before everyone got on the green wagon.
So, yeah, more than just making room for new actors and actresses.
(and the beautiful eyes are a bonus)
