Acting legend Paul Newman dies at 83

Perhaps they're making way for equally talented people of this generation.

St. Peter> "Oy, who sent out the rookie angel? The order said RANDY Newman..."
Great actor, great salad dressing. Or, as someone said on another forum, "What we have here is a failure to respirate..." |

Paul Newman founded Newman's Own products, a successful line of salad dressings, cookies and other foods, which generates hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenue for which all profits are donated to charity through Newman's Own Foundation. He also started Hole in the Wall Camps for children with life-threatening illnesses as well as the Scott Newman Foundation for the prevention of drug abuse (named for his son, who died of an overdose). He brought all-natural food products to grocery stores and practiced being green by recycling before everyone got on the green wagon. So, yeah, more than just making room for new actors and actresses. (and the beautiful eyes are a bonus) |
Too young to have seen any of his 'classic' movies, only reason I even heard of him was because of a few lines from 'Cool Hand Luke' (I think that was the film title...) and because I sometimes saw a bottle of one of his company's salad dressings in the grocery.
Always thought it was a nice thing that a 100% of proceeds went to charities, unlike some other celebs who attach their names and give like 5% @_@ One of the few 'celebs' I respected died too soon. |
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT he Die, How the Heck Did he Die, Come on Details Details
Oh wait I found it Newman was scheduled to make his professional stage directing debut with the Westport Country Playhouse's 2008 production of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, but he stepped down on May 23, 2008, citing health issues. In June 2008 it was widely reported that Newman, a former chain smoker, had been diagnosed with lung cancer and was receiving treatment at Sloan-Kettering hospital in New York City. Photographs taken of Newman in May and June showed him looking gaunt. Writer A.E. Hotchner, who partnered Newman to start Newman's Own salad dressing company in the 1980s, was quoted as saying that Newman told him about the disease about 18 months ago. Newman's spokesman told the press that the star is "doing nicely," but neither confirmed nor denied that he had cancer. In August, Newman reportedly had finished chemotherapy and told his family he wished to die at home. He did so on September 26, 2008 aged 83, surrounded by his family and close friends. His daughter Nell Newman is poised to take over Newman's Own. |
=(
And he had such pretty eyes too. I still like the famous quote from Cool Hand Luke.. "What we have here, is a failure to communicate" =\ My dad/oldest brother liked Paul Newman. I think I only saw him in Cool Hand Luke. Maybe something else. I'm not sure. Would have to ask my dad. |
