opening it up doesn't affect it unless maybe it's a laptop. even when getting replacement parts they give you the option of having a technician come out and do it or letting you do it yourself and just sending the part that was replaced back in the box they give you.
that is one good thing i have to say about dell. their customer service was pretty damn good. i dropped my laptop and bent the pins in the network card slot and someone came out the next day and replaced the motherboard for me.
but also like i said they let me change stuff myself and it didnt' affect anything. though if there's a problem with something and it involves teh video card they won't help you with that. that was the one thing that pissed me off though. i bought the video card from them and was having a problem but they wouldn't help me. somehow my rage fixed it though o_o.
