Page ranks

I have just started to record the changes in page views for the top 100 most viewed pages. In light of the figures that are coming through, one may identify pages of interest to improve.

http://www.fiestafan.com/tools/FFWikiPageRank.pdf

Curiously, some of the most popular pages aren't getting a lot of new views. On the other hand, it is unsurprising that the most frequently accessed pages now, almost 2 years after the game appeared, are data pages (skills, production skills, lists).

Monsters

http://www.fiestafan.com/tools/develop/fiesta/view.php

With the right command, it will show anything relating to a monster.

Skills

http://www.fiestafan.com/tools/develop/fiesta/skills.php

Again, with the right command, it will dump everything to the screen.

Encyclopaedic style

...is the term to describe the style of writing (choice upheld by the self-appointed wikigod). This means that prose should be descriptive, concise, and written in a narrative point of view: phrases such as "I would..." (first person), "now, this..." (informal), "How can I do this then? To do this, ..." (conversational - but it's okay to use rhetorics in narrative).

In lists, points should start with a concise statement of fact with a short comment if necessary. Examples should be concise but succinct, as opposed to a drawn-out and elaborate sketch. Recommendations should be either written in a factual statement style, or an imperative one; usage of "I recommend" is not recommended as you have rightly concluded.

In prose, try not to have too many paragraphs per section. Make full use of the ===Hierarchy===. Also, too many one-line paragraphs can be very unsightly. Each section must be focused on its heading.

In regard to the skills guides, there are flurries of short fragmented contributions here and there, causing them to break several of the requirements for the continuity of passage and style of writing as mentioned above. I have converted the Weapons section under Mage Guide quite some time ago, and you can see the conversion here.

Actions taken were: removal of comments and personal tags, restructuring of the list and removal of non-factual points, generalising certain statements and removal of others that don't apply. Most importantly, I ditched user comments in favour of facts, and this is something for which discretion is needed. Ideally, you would outline exhausively the advantages and disadvantages, but do nothing to bias a reader's opinion one way or another.

Another example of gross (haha) 'paraphrasing' took place in the level 20 job change section - this one you know about. Some pages, like Harvesting and Resources, can be improved simply by a more clearly headed layout (using the =tag=). I don't see any bloated pages though (where are they?) However, the long list of tips, interestingly forming a trapezium, on the Money Making page may be broken down into sections.

What I have written here cannot be considered to possess 'good flow'. To achieve that, I would preferably have broken down the recommendations into bullet points, and made the bolded paragraph headings more concise. Most noticeably too, is that the prominent usage of the first person nominative singular pronouns will have to be rephrased away.

Fiesta's queer English-adaptation errors

  • Ramsear - The herb item better known as Lamb's Ear
  • Vilolet - Another herb item better known as Violet
  • "Party rooting authority has been changed to..." - "...looting..."?
  • Lighting Vivi - look closely at its name
  • Karasian Solider - is a solider something that solidifies another thing?
  • Mara Pirates - The mob is one, yet the name is plural.
  • Goblin Swordman - As the sword, or wielding the sword?
  • Were Bear/Were Bear Master - Werebears were bears?
  • Great Goble King - This is what makes it different from the normal version in MD KQ
  • SpadeTrumpy - The previous patch robbed it of its space
  • -license name- hummer - w00t! My hammer just became a hummer.
  • -license name- wand - wait a minute, it's a staff.
  • Ghost Night's Ring of Darkness - can you spot the mistake?
  • Seclipse Battle Mace - I thought this was a unique at first, but no
  • Aquamarine Necklace of - I suggest the Antidote suffix
  • Siver lump - Lol.

- Old issues -

  • Shylph - Dear God. Massive butchering. It's sylph.
  • Flame Slyph - Fault once, fault again. Differently.
  • Karasian Templer, Karasian Archtempler - ...Templar! (whole family of templers)

I'm sure there are more. Feel free to add.

ROFLMAO!!! That made me LOL so hard! I didn't knows few of those, too. :D Hyperswoss
Kekekekeke. Nice catches. Good to see the Asian "r" and "l" confusion is still going strong... -.- Ralath
"Asian"? "Japanese" might be more appropriate... which kinda makes me wonder, did they translate to English based on a Japanese translation of the Korean game or what? Icy
Hrm. I don't know about Korean but Chinese people get R's and L's mixed up sometimes. My dad says "fruit" when he actually means, "flute." /offtopic. Should be translated from Korea though... =/ Ralath
That is news to me. My dad mixes 'L' and 'N' as part of his hmmm. Dialect heritage. Our fathers must have somehow slacked with pronunciation when they were young. Lol. Icy
LOL!!!!! That's hilarious! There's another one, "siver lump", but I can't think of a cool comment, someone else can add it maybe XD Hessah
  • siver lump no wonder copper lump gives you 100c and siver lump gives 1s. Takes 6 letters to get 100. :(Gandalfa82 03:16, 30 July 2008 (CDT)
  • Snearing Kick = Snaring? Lvramire 04:07, 5 March 2009 (CST)

My current in game obsessions:

  • Heavenly Necklace of Rumen - They can name a City but can not spell the item correctly? - I own but want the other one :(
  • Legendary Necklace of Rumen - Double fault?
  • Shining Ring of Rumen - Wonder what the Internal E-mails look like? BTW, I own 1 - anyone got another 3?
  • Brave Ring of Rumen - At least this time they had consistency.
