Is it possible to save someone else's playlist as my own, so I can edit my own copy of the playlist?

Pretty sure you can. I saved someone else's playlist but I haven't editted it.

If you start playing one of the videos on the playlist, you should see a playlist bar at the bottom. Just go to options -> save as new playlist
