they will occasionally heal if they're nice, otherwise they just fight on.
The king slime KQ has very weak monsters that are easily defeated.
The only time that clerics are of a major assistance is in the boss fight, but it's still possible without a cleric.

you don't HAVE to do the KQ. Though the ones who do it would love for another person ! But you still gain exp from doing it (killing monsters) you don't lose exp if you die.
