I still don't get the potential exp. By the time Great Spider spawns you've killed the Ultra Spiders. The only thing you have to lose after this point is the potential for a KQ chest and the low KQ exp reward.

It is 40K exp. It may have been a typo.
I do spiders for the mats. So, I want to succeed. I was okay with not getting my spider kill, Loki can verify that, lol. But, if the group has potential and wanted to go after it, I go with the flow.

I remember the first spider KQ where we killed Great Spider. The group actually just wanted to kill GS for the ores that spawn when you complete the KQ with Great Spider dead.
You need a smart tank for Spider KQ. Its really up to the main tank to decide if the KQ group can handle killing Great spider or not. Since the main tank will be doing the most work when Great Spider goes on a frenzy.
Only problem lies is when everyone knows the KQ is going to fail if they attempt to kill Great Spider. But some people with huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge egos think otherwise.
I personally think the biggest challenge in the entire Spider KQ is convincing those people the KQ will fail if they attempt to kill Great Spider.

To be fair though, I've been in a few KQs which I thought were sure fails, that managed to kill GS.
I always told people not to try for it if we looked too weak but you can get surprised sometimes. KQs with one Cleric for example that kill GS, the one KQ that almost killed it with no Archers or Mages (Axers ftw I suppose) and the KQ with the stupidest Mages that I've had the displeasure to try to keep alive.
Seriously....you're being chased by the babys and I'm busy healing the tank. Wth, why do you stop and pause to life-tap?

You know the answer to that
But I've only been in 1 spider KQ where we attempted to kill Great Spider but failed.
It pretty much played out was just as the robbers were spawning KQ group decided they wanted to kill GS but I noticed something unusual that the group was killing the robbers at a very slow rate.
We still had to deal with alot of mobs when Great Spider Spawned. I tried to take matters into my own hands by pulling Great Spider around the room since I knew it was going to fail but they insisted on trying to kill it. Well as a cleric I couldn't hold aggro on it and within a few seconds babies were everywhere. Eventually everyone in the entire KQ was dead except for me (Since I was smart enough to get out of the way into safety in slim hopes of still winning) so all the mobs came after me. At that point I started pulling all the spiders in a massive mob train doing laps around the room. The people who had hearts left revived themselves while they all waited for the clerics to revive them.
At this point I knew all the attention in the KQ went right on me. So for the remainder of the KQ people just followed my mob train around the room until time expired.
To this day I've never failed a single Spider KQ and it will remain that way since I no longer play Fiesta

I will have to agree with lvra on the whole killing thing. I was in a Robo where I thought there was no chance to of killing Robo because we didn't have a single tank past 40 and everybody else was... so-so.
But as I later found out, if you have enough people willing to die and enough clerics to keep rezzing, then if Robo only kills one or two people with his AoE, then it's still possible. Haha. Robo would just kill someone, stop and pause for several seconds and not do anything, and everybody would take this time to kill him. Unorthodox strategy, but it worked. o-o

Psh, I'm glad I dun have to do Spider KQ anymore... Whenever I did the KQ, I'd have a similar problem... Plus, mages >_> usually there would be like 2-3 mages, and at least 1 of em is 67 or above... And when the babies spawn NONE of em does Nova, Inferno or even Magic Burst... As an archer with low def, I wouldn't be -that- dumb to do Mists, then in the end when the MT dies and GS regenerates, most of the time they blame the ARCHERS <_<
