Virtual PC 2007?

My question here is, have any of you used it? Is it worth the attempt?

Some background on my issues:
I got a new computer with Vista 64-bit on it. It does not recognize my scanner or my new camcorder. I was thinking of loading virtual PC 2007 and running a virtual machine with XP on it so I can use my "legacy(as they call it)" software. So what I want to know is if anybody has used it and if it is worth it or just more of a pain than anything. I do need to be able to copy files from the virtual machine to the host, which I understand is not possible with some virtual machines. Or, is there something better out there that is free to use?

I use VirtualBox to simulate other Windows versions and a lot of Linux distros. It's free.
