Camera Pros?
Anyone a camera pro / fanatic here?
At work we've got a Canon Powershot, I believe G Series (kinda look like this one)
And on Auto colleagues have been bringing back photos like these:
(I had to blur out the faces..)
It's too dark, because it's too far away and the flash / sensors didn't pick up the subject at all..
They're blaming the camera, and is looking for a new one with more powerful zoom like the Canon Powershot SX40...
Considering that they have no idea how to use manual photography, do you think this new camera will solve our problem?

In general, getting a new camera wouldn't really change much in a dark room unless you get a dSLR or something. Flash only irritates the people around you in these cases. See if any tips in that guide will help. You can probably try to google tips when using point-and-shoot cameras as well.
And it seems their camera has a low light option too.
You could always try to colour correct later in Photoshop but there's a limit to what it can do as well. If you try to artificially lighten too much you will get noise.

Yeah getting a DSLR might help, and look into its available attachments, I know that larger flashes are available to use, but stand away from the crowd when using it x.x

Heh, np.
My photography teacher, when he looked at my point-and-shoot digital camera he was surprised at how much control there was compared to when he was growing up...
So yeah, if they actually look into it I'm sure they can save quite a bit of money. Unless they want an excuse to buy a new camera. And if they do... SLR. I've read up on it cause I've been wanting to get one. Cheap body is fine. It's the lens that makes the difference.

Yes hubby has been drooling over some L lens but they're $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.....
I wonder if I can convince my boss to go for a DSLR rather than one of these powershot things...
I can get a EOS 1100D with a 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 lens for about the same price...
I can never remember what all the mm stuff means for a lens, but I'll get my hubby (kept wanting to type bf!) to have a look into it for me...

I believe the mm are effectively zooms / wide angle elements...
so the 18-55mm lens would not be able to zoom as well, but can take more wide angle shots.. and the 55-250mm has much more zoom but less wide angle...
Ask him what he wants it for and if he's got any existing lens?
Lens Focal Length*, Terminology, Typical Photography
Less than 21 mm, Extreme Wide Angle, Architecture
21-35 mm , Wide Angle , Landscape
35-70 mm , Normal, Street & Documentary
70-135 mm , Medium Telephoto, Portraiture
135-300+ mm , Telephoto , Sports, Bird & Wildlife
