The thing is, any skilled mathematician can do that with just about any set of numbers. You can manipulate them into all sorts of seemingly connected states.
One of our most useful adaptations, the ability to see patterns, sometimes fails us in spectacular fashion. Check out the phenomena of Subjective Validation and Confirmation Bias.
This gives a good example of it, in fairly plain English.
