Getting internet on Laptop

So my sister got a laptop but we can't get internet on it. We can't find a good wifi connection. So how would we got about getting internet on that laptop? Our desktop has internet connected through a modem.

linksys!!
That's the only unsecure wifi connection we can get. But it's usually only one bar and we can't connect to the internet on it.
And no, i've never seen on.... If i buy that would it replace my modem? So i can get internet on my desktop and the laptop? And would i have to contact my internet provider or anything?
