And I want to sleeep! I wish 2pm will hurry up and come so I can go to my lab and finish it and go home.

I think it's gonna be boring too. We're gonna be watching the demonstrator prepare gel in agarose electrophoresis, then we're gonna squirt DNA into the wells and wait one hour and look at shiny orange stripes on the paper. =.="

And the thing is, we don't use our own results for the questions, they're gonna give us a different sheet with "proper" results in case our ones have errors. So it's gonna feel soo pointless waiting that one hour!!!!!!

I was thinking something similar this morning while I was waiting in line at Centrelink to hand in my payment form. Geez they like to take their sweet ass time. there were only 2 people in front of me but I was waiting for 45 minutes...

This was actually probably my favorite lab that we did in AP Bio last year. It's fun just pouring the solution into the wells and then watching it solidfiy and then poking at it with your finger. Haha. Plus, the concept is easy. xD

Except. I think we had two wells that had the DNA so in the end, we couldn't decide which well matched up best with the "suspect's" DNA. >_>"

I bet I still have my lab write-up somewhere.....

WTH I typed up a reply and I just crossed out the window without submitting it.

Anyway.

But squirting DNA in only takes 5 seconds! And then there's nothing to do. But they made us watch this boring video on electrophoresis for 26 minutesss (omgawdd) and answer questions.

And the demonstrator spent like, 15 minutes talking about how to use the pipette.

Pipette techniques are learnt in the first lab of first year! WHY ARE WE GOING OVER THIS IN SECOND YEAR!

Then again, I've met some second years last semester that didn't now how to use one! >__>

I'm pretty sure we never even properly learned how to use a pipette. They're kind of... obvious? You just squeeze it when it's in solution and squeeze it again to make it come out. o-o

Unless you guys have really advanced pipettes or really advanced pipetting techniques.

But then again, in Chem., my percent error was regularly over 50%. Actually, I think it was 114% once. HAHa

We use ones that look like these:

You have to push the knob at the top down a bit until you can feel a stop, put it in the solution, let the knob go to suck the solution up, and then push the knob down all the way (after the "stop") to expel the liquid.

Sounds complicated but it's real easy once you've done it once. My partner last semester pressed it all the way down INSIDE the liquid and made a lot of bubbles in the solution, and sucked too much solution up. =_____=" Noob.

But actually, those look familiar too. I'm pretty sure we used something like that for Bio. And we could set how much mL of fluid we wanted to soak up too...

Yeah, I used those in high schools too.

Which is normal, since it's not really strict in getting accurate results in high school. For me, anyway. Plus, their cheap. My high school wouldn't be able to afford the pipettes we use at uni. xD Especially if they're buyin them for little kiddos.
