I doubt they feed him gum actively. Maybe he's gotten into it before and since then he kind of knows what it is. Plus, mint gum has a potent smell. Dogs will go to great lengths to get what they want. And a lot of house pets will develop tastes for random foods. I've had a cat that was obsessed with ham. Another one that loved yogurt. My friends dog liked vegetables and her cat loved melon.
I'm sure it was just a goofy video to show people his shenanigans.
But according to Google, mint gum can be VERY bad for dogs. Hopefully that gum wasn't sugar free.
