jacquin is on a distinguished road
Welcome to the aggo system, aka "death to the low-defs". Don't feel bad about asking: this is the first game I've ever played with anything like this.

As NotMyWay said, monsters get attracted to whoever is doing the most damage or flinging out the most heals. As such, if you are the highest damage doer or are a cleric, that monster will eventually leave the tank and chase you instead. Note, by the way, that warriors are among the lowest damagers in the game on average, especially while they are using one-handed swords.

In truth, the key to a warrior actually tanking at all is their taunts. Their first is Snearing Kick, which looks like they are spining around doing a karate kick. That, along with their normal attacks, is enough to keep a monster on them. A good warrior should be ready to fling it out VERY regularly, letting you be able to just sit there and attack like you're supposed to. Low level warriors are well known to forget this, though.

Against King Slime's summons is another issue: the tank is focuced on King Slime and NOT his fellows (a good thing: you DON'T want King Slime out and about, trust me). Thus, untaunted Prince comes out, sees "I Pwn in damage" ViciousEve, says "oo, squishy" and comes running. Even worse, they do this MORE to the clerics who are keeping the tank alive (that's actually programmed in: if you heal the tank YOU become the target) What's SUPPOSED to happen here is that all of the attackers are to focus on the summons the second the show, the warriors who aren't tanking taunting to draw them away from you while archers/mages kill them fast.

Of course, 'supposed to happen' isn't anything close to 'really does happen', thus when the summons show up:

-Be ready to run AROUND the others: don't leave the area and DON'T get alone with the thing..stay near the team till someone pulls it off of you.
-Be ready to heal: The clerics SHOULD be focused on the tank, not you. You're on your own then, so be ready to quaff that potion and stone.

Oh yes, and in all situations, if the warrior tank isn't taunting, or if the tank isn't a warrior (warriors are the official tank NOT because of defense but because of taunt..remember that when Mr. Archer says "I can tank!": Sidenote, clerics CAN pull it off too but it's..messy) then slow your attacks down a bit so you aren't doing as much damage as you can: that way, WHEN the monster runs away, it's at least be running to someone ELSE.

Last thing: about stun, stun does NOT autoswitch a monster's target. In fact, there's NOTHING magical about it: ALL it does is stop the attack for a few seconds. What causes the target switch is that a warrior stunning is not a warrior doing damage and, thus, boring the monster. A quick taunt or some nice damage skills will solve that easily. The nastier effect is if the TANK get stunned: that's 10 seconds of doing NOTHING. Best thing for everyone is to stop attacking AND healing the tank (yes, that means tank much heal themself) till the tank recovers and taunts again.
