The Cloud system that we're using has chucked an Outspark, where people that haven't logged in cannot log in, and those that are already logged in can still use the database..

My colleagues are complaining that they can't do anything without the database!

Well there's nothing I can do about it~

I was referring to the database that we use at work uses cloud...

I don't think what Outspark is on is considered Cloud...

I like the IDEA of cloud computing, but I so far don't like the IMPLEMENTATION of cloud computing. It'll get better as the tech progresses, but it isn't quite there yet.

What you mean by implementation?

The biggest downside that we have at the moment is we rely entirely on the company that we've subscribed to..

If they're down, we're stuffed. We have no control of our data which is stored elsewhere.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. I like the idea of being able to access my data from everywhere, but if that company has a problem, you're fucked no matter where you are.

If I have local copies and off-site backup, I can at least get to my data at some point. If the cloud company ever goes totally out of business on a whim, well, too bad. I like having control of my data.

yeah..

however ironically, the technology and support that these company have would be way better than what a small business would have in-house, so the chances of us losing data or losing access is lower than if we use their cloud computing.. keke

I don't really get what the cloud is.

It's just sort of like extra storage on the Internet where everyone can access files... and I'm guessing it is synced or something...? ._.

I believe key characteristics of cloud computing is the company itself doesn't need to set up any hardware / software, everything is browser based, and can be accessed by computer, laptop, tablets and smartphones...
