They delivered a $3.25 sandwich for free? It's hard to imagine that. Most places I know have a minimum order required. The thing is, if you plan on ordering more from this place, you've done yourself a great favor. You might not need to tip quite so much of a percentage, but if you're known as someone who tips generously, drivers will fight for your stop and sometimes bring freebies. I used to work at a place where I couldn't leave the site for 48 hours. Sometimes, instead of bringing my food, I'd order out. The places around got to recognizing my address and they started bringing me 2-Litre drinks, coupons for free food (the, ooops! We made a mistake! cards), even a couple of times the Dominos guy would run by the place after closing with free pizzas that would have been trashed.
That said, I was tipping about $5 on a $25-30 order. In general, I tip 15% for good service at places I don't plan on going to a lot and 20% (or more) on places I frequent.
