It doesn't matter. The word itself is still not offensive. It's not their problem if your mind goes directly to young underage porn.

Is "clam" offensive to you?? no? so why is that banned when lolita is more commonly known for the slang rather than the dress style?

Lolita is a reference to Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. In the novel, an adult becomes sexually obsessed with a twelve year old girl. Quite a stunning example of 20th century literature. However, in recent times, the term has become more or less shorthand for the object of underage desire.

Coincidentally, it could also be a nickname for Dolores, as that is how the name Lolita derrives, but its highly unlikely in this instance.

It's a must read, but you probably wont be able to find it in your high school library. It's another one of those classics that's been bastardized by Americans into something that it's not like "Brave New World." Our parents and grandparents decided back in the 60s that the material--when taken literally, or out of context--is inappropriate.

I didn't, however, realize that Lolita was a Japanese dress. Learn something new every day i guess!
