I only skimmed but I was a fighter myself so I just knew which points to look at.
Actually, all fighters use Devastate which is the frontal AoE attack + stun. When that skill is fully empowered with cooldown and damage it lives up to its name. On top of that the damage from an Axe user will hurt... a lot. In most high level parties it's about AoE and the one-on-one skills during cooldown if any.
I hate to say it but most players now enhance their gear so they can have decent defense along with raw power from wielding an Axe.
