This is coming from an adult with three childre so I'm going to coming from the perspective of a parent. Your mother cares for you and loves you. It is her nob to look out for your well being. She also worries about your safety,your future,and developement. Besides all that she has to take care of herself and her other responsibilities. She wants what is best for you.

As for your free time, I think you should talk to her about what you like and why and ask her what her concerns are about them. If you can find out what her concerns are about these things you may be able to quiet them for her.

my mums awesome after being the sixth child she really let me do anything actually my mums been like that with everyone of her kids she is one of the best mummy`s in Town
one example me and my friends were going to light of a TONNE of fireworks and mum asked what we were doing we said going to light fireworks at the foreshore(not supposed to) she just said cool i watch from here and see if i can see them
(best fireworks ever as well)

Yeah, that sucks. but she's just trying to be loving in her own freakishly controlling way. so take solace in the fact that she cares, and is just trying to look out for you ,and just try and tell her WHY reading a book on ninjas or other violent things wont make YOU a violent person, since you have the ability to tell the difference between right and wrong.

my mother was never worried about anything i did because she knew that violent video games and such wouldn't make me want to do that irl and stuff. i've been watching rated R movies for as long as i can remember (my mom's favorite movie is pulp fiction and i watched it with my parents when it first came out i guess)

but this has pushed another thought in my mind. some parents are sometimes unsure if they are doing a good job as a parent i think. i wonder if that can sometimes make them over protective because they worry how these things might affect their kids if they haven't raised them well.

not saying that's the case here, it was just a thought that popped into my head.

I think when I was younger I had a similar problem... back in the Dial up age where internet cost you by the minute (=.=) I only get 1 hr on the internet a day...

But since no one had cable back then, it didn't seem like a problem to me...

My problem was that all my friends started going out with their frds to watch movies, and take sticker photos and all that and I wasn't allowed to go coz "it's too dangerous"... I think I was 16 when I was allowed to go out with my frds, and even so I was restricted to certain streets coz it's "dangerous"...

Byt anyway... Regarding when your mum would let you grow up... my mum loosen up on what once I started Uni... it was kinda obvious that they want us to concentrate more on studying for our Uni Entry Exam and once that was over, all hell broke loose LOL (No I'm not a rebel... xD)

My parents never have been really protective. They're really open.

Umm.. I can do just about anything when it comes to my dad. He treats and talks to me like I'm already an adult. o-o

My mom will.. hover now and then. She has snooped in my room a few times(And I've learned my lesson. Desk drawer = bad place to have certain things.) But.. I pretty much do whatever, whenever.

Its not like I'm not responsible though. I can take care of myself and others. I will do things around the house without being told to. Help out when I can. I'm not some wild child. I think that because my parents were so open while they were together(Didn't control my brothers and I.. didn't tell us what we had to do or believe) that my brothers and I really learned a lot. We decided what was wrong and right. Of course, its not like we raised ourselves but still. xD

Anyways.. this is getting a bit long.

About your mom, you really need to talk to her about it. Ask her why she is so protective (or whatever she is). Once you know the reasons, then you can explain to her why this and that is okay and why you should start getting treated like an adult. (Because it sounds like you're 16+.. right? And its getting close to the point where she'll need to let go.. a lot.)
