In the US, dates are typically formatted: mm/dd/yyyy

In Europe and Australia, they format the date: dd/mm/yyyy

Where d=day, m-month, and y=year.

Since Hess lives and works in Australia, she uses the format of dd/mm in real life, then hops on an American game/message board (here) where we use the mm/dd format. It can get confusing when going back and forth. That's why I tend to write months out longhand. Today would be 1 February, for instance.
