and for the question about the edits they were done via a program.
Some little script kiddie did that using a IP Spoofer which made it even harder. The fact they had an IP Spoofer in that changed their IP address while they were doing it prevented even a mass revert based off of IP and multiable reverts were required.
After this 2nd attack like this I would agree we need to lock edits down to registered users only. I know there are people who likes to do it via their IP address but they can sign up and it will only take a few mins for that.
And no the Wiki does not require people to sign in but they have a lot more support to prevent spam like this. It would be nice if everyone could just play fair and be nice but it seems that is just to much to ask for.
