need some help

I am currently tring to complete a quest where I need to collect ore, but When I go to the mine and try to "gather" it gives me a message that I don't have a gathering skill? Can anyone tell me how to get this so I can finish the quest?

Go to Skill Master Ruby and go to the tab with the test tube icon. Buy the Mining skill and learn it. Next go to Item Merchant Pey and buy a Pickexe.

Then you can mine.
