Vicious cycle...? It does end somewhere and it's never a happy ending.

By cycle, I guess he meant the both the abused/abusers will affect someone somewhere else directly/indirectly, so it just goes on and on. For example, someone crazy out there who just read about this article may have been "inspired" by it and do abusive things to others. That would've been an indirect affect.

Far-fetched example but something like that.

Well to the question of what goes on on the minds of these people, I believe the answer is - nothing. I think that they think that its perfectly normal. To give an example, around 3 years ago I thought it was pretty horrible to cheat during exams (call me a goody-goody ). But now, I do it every other time without thinking (Don't call me down for cheating now, ok? You won't believe my college and what it puts me through). I know it seems a pretty tame example compared to roasting a helpless baby, but I used to think about it with the same degree of helplessness, frustration, and incapability of understanding, that I think of these problems with now.
