You're the only person other than me that I've seen think of it that way.
I would rather have lag now, than risking my entire char being messed up because they decided to do some maintenance unannounced.

I pay to play the RL MMORPG, College. 4 years grinding in college gets you a piece of paper for the rest of your life and you can buy enough stuff to +9 your car//house.

Where shall we wander?

Noone knows what the lag will be like a little while from now with these servers, I'm sure they're doing everything they can to get servers that are quite a bit less laggy. I think it lagged like hell too the first time they changed, but like booyah said I'd prefer information integrity over lag.
I'm sure they can always change servers/reduce lag but a character once lost in a maintenance mix-up might never comne back =/

I think that even if a company did do regular back-ups an unnotified maintenance on the server side when they should've known Outspark was going to have a rather large update is not a very good thing. And y'never know maybe the old server providers decided to be a jerk about it too.

I've never really heard of any host losing /messing up an entire database? o-o surely its common sense and knowledge that everything needs to be backed up?

The closest thing I know to that is 'White Wednesday' in KoL (Kingdom of Loathing) It wasn't the server-hosts who did it though.

They turned it to their advantage.

In the following weeks, Jick and the Asymmetric Publications staff worked to restore valuable items to players who had lost them. By December 2005, most of the temporal rifts closed, although one remains as a permanent feature.

Well. All I can say is outspark has to know that their bread and butter is satsified players. All the money they make from the cash shop will begin to disappear if the players start dropping because of lag. I have a feeling the lag issues will be resolved eventually.
