so do the blues and reds keep you from loosing your weapon/armor when upgrading but they don't really help ensure an upgrade correct?

About how many blues and reds will it take to get it up to a 9+?

Yep, only keeps you from loosing/degrading.
... and the amount it takes depends on your luck = =;
It's probably better to enhance 30+ stuff, since you pass through the levels before it rather quickly.

If your first starting and are just getting sparkcash then I would suggest getting one of those hair salon bottles. There is just something about having your character not look like every other one that makes it worth it. :3

Okay, I have bought Red Eyes and Blue Miles for refining which makes me have nice shiny weapons and items so people will look at me and think how cute I am. With the Beauty Shop Coupon, you can change your face, your eyes, and your hair. And yeah... you can change it so you look "handsome" and "scary." Personally, me thinks the face tattoos are kind of creepy scary. Especially on clerics. Also, there are different colors of hair instead of just variations of blue and purple so you can give yourself reddish hair which is also kind of scary.

I would not bother with Blessing of Teva at the early stages. The experience lost per death can be easily acquired again.
