its an old piece that I did for my studio art class back in high school
This was based off of the mythological plant called the Cordyceps
its a parasitical plant that is implanted in humans and absorbs part of their life force
not a lot, only a insignificant amount, the human can still live their lives normally
after death, on the night of a full moon (or something of that sort, dont know if there's a specific moon/date) the plant will bloom into a beautiful pure white flower from the skull.
The flower is highly coveted for magic such as necromancy for the Cordyceps contained a high concentration of life magic.
The Cordyceps is considered rare for it was not just any humans that can become the host, a specific type is needed thus generally when there's a clan that is eligible, they are implanted in them at a young age.
The modern day cordyceps is a fungus that attaches itself to caterpillars, replacing the tissues with its roots, thus killing it, sprouts, spreads its spores, and repeats
