I don't remember being locked in my room.. I don't think my parents ever did that.. but they probably took away other privileges, like missing out on an upcoming birthday party, tear up my favourite stickers..

That probably hurt me more than just locking me in a room.. must say it was quite effective too..

I remember you got into trouble for something once and mum told you to stay in our room and not come out. I remember you were sitting on the bed really angrily + crying too. I felt sorry for you so I went in to talk to you and then mum told me off too for talking to you while you were supposed to be punished!!

so I wasn't allowed in the room after that.

You got locked in and I got locked out.

Yeah in concept it seems to be in benefit of the kid, but it seems like once they're sent to their room (with ALL of their stuff) it's the one place on Earth they don't want to be.
