For example, 4! = 4 X 3 X 2 X 1 = 24
They probably have many uses, but I remember using them in permutations. That and making recursive code in C++.
Looks like I did make an error. It should have been:
? x (?-1) x (?-2) x (?-3)...[(?+1)-?] = ?!, assuming x is greater than or equal to 5.
It was just a bit of a joke I went waaaay too far out there to make and analyzing it this much makes it even less funny, LOL. Ah well. Live and learn.

so... would ! and ? be variables? or are they random symbols standing for numbers, like pi? o.o
if they're variables, i get it... if not, im lost x.x

Well, in Hrae's case, '?' is a variable, but ! is a symbol for factorial. And factorial is what Hrae showed in there: 4! = 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 24
3! = 3 x 2 x 1 = 6. You get the drift, right?

I think usually a letter is used in place of the ?, as letter generally represents an unknown number..
n x (n-1) x (n-2) x (n-3)...[(n+1)-n] = n!

Typically, yeah. A letter is generally used as a variable, but the conversation up to that point had been:
dcfash: ?
Vasu: ??
Tamashiiryuu: ?x3=???
Hraesvelg: Algebra fail. 3 x ? = 3?
Vasu: Yeah so: ? x ? x ? = ??? or ?^3
That's why I used ? as the variable, just to get to the punchline of ?!.
