I'm pretty much against any/all forms of censorship. Aside from things like snuff films, child pornography, etc..., and as long as it isn't hurting anyone else, then adults should be allowed to view/read/hear/say whatever the hell they want in my opinion.
As far as saying these things are for protecting the children... that's a load of crap in my opinion. What ever happened to parents actually raising their own kids? Why does it have to fall on the government, (and taxpayer money), to make sure someone's kid doesn't see something innappropriate online? There are a multitude of monitoring and blocking software that can be bought and installed privately if their parents are so concerned. All it takes is a little personal responsibility and a slightly active role in raising your kids. (gasp!)
If the aim is to curb piracy then, well... that's just futile. Pirates and hackers will always find a way to circumvent whatever measures are put into place to stop them. They have annonymity and sheer numbers on their side, and collectively they are, quite frankly, far smarter and more resourceful than the government bodies trying to stop them. More often than not the steps taken against piracy hardly amount to a speed bump for the pirates, but often cause significant problems for legitimate users/consumers.
It all sounds like it's just a big, annoying, waste of money to me.
