I had a friend who was somewhat obsessed with getting a top-of-the-line Alienware computer.
This though was back before Halo came out ( 1 or 2, I can't remember ) so his idea of top-of-the-line is somewhat different now.
He made it sound like Alienware were the ultimate gaming-rigs. They might be?

I think they bought the company some time in...06? 07? It hasn't been THAT long ago. I've liked their case designs, but I think they're full systems are overpriced. Then again, I tend to build my own. To each his own, I suppose.

I'd say get a Dell XPS laptop...
But that's just because they have LCD light out of the fans, speakers, and top of the laptop.  Cool.
Seriously, don't get an XPS... And I've used Alienware computers before, and honestly I don't see a noticeable difference other than graphics. |

Alienware comps are good for gaming, they come optimized for it with everything overclocked and cooled, ready to roll for you. As far as being worth it goes... not really. Not to me anyway. You can build the same rig and tweak it yourself for much much less money. You pay a lot for the brand name and convenience. If you have the money for it and can't, or don't want to, build your own then yeah, they're good.
