Yep. She was a mess with the drugs. Compare an early album, say something from her Columbia days with Lady in Satin. The pure, raw emotion in her voice on the tunes on Lady in Satin is just heart-wrenching. You can almost hear that she knows this will be one of her last albums. Her voice is just wrecked from the booze and drugs...but its compelling nonetheless.

You cant generalize rap as to degrading woman and talking about money and drugs though that is what most of it is. Especially if you
havent listened to alot of underground rap that doesnt talk about that.

to me rap is just fast talking with background music, it's not really singing
