Reading in general with or without the use of prescription lenses increases the strain on your eyes. Often, you hold the text you are reading fairly close to your eyes, which at that distance, strains them since your eyes are rapidly moving and absorbing the text.

I note that many book-lovers dispute this. It is the same as using a computer. It can cause eyestrain, which leads to deteriorated vision. Consequently, you should take breaks and read in a well-lit area. Dimness forces your eyes to strain even more, thus deteriorating your vision even more.
