You usually use it to make high level materials by combining low level ones.

However, since you level, the tiers increase as well, its pretty much useless.

Material decomposition, on the other hand, is more useful. You can use the materials you gather and decompose them into lower tier-ed materials for other production skills such as stone, potion or scroll production.

I think the only thing I've found useful about Material Composition (so far) is that it makes finding HQ Copper Ore less of a pain since you can just turn 8 LQ Copper Ore into 1 HQ. So... making Lixes [2] isn't such a hassal trying to mine for HQ Copper Ore.
