Tip 2 - don't download any and everything you see - run scan on stuff first, some of the most innocent crap harbors key-loggers, trojan horse things and and viruses - my granddaughter downloaded something and did a lot of harm to one of my PC's last summer and it was some crap to do with cute icons and cursors - so ALWAYS use caution.

every time I see people say stuff like this I stop to think if I'm a lucky bastard or not XD
I never have viruses/keyloggers problems, ever, I even had my old comp running w/o an anti-virus for about an year and never had any problem.
of course, as you said, you can't go and download everything you see. the only 2 times I had this kind of problem, immediately after looking at the home page I was browsing I thought it would have some kinda virus or something :x~ but it was a looong time ago ><
