I am an idiot

Instead of buying a wireless router i bought a 10/100 network adapater I mean 5-port workgroup switch, or something like that Now i have to wait a few more hours to return it and get the wireless router. Oh, and just making sure, the wireless router comes with a cord/cable that i can connect to the modem right? Right now the desktop is connected to the internet though this gray cable/cord thats hooked into the modem.

some wireless routers do come with an extra ethernet cable. check the box to see if it does. if it doesn't you just need to buy an ethernet cable. the router should come with instructions on what to do but basically:
the cable that's currently connected to your computer: unplug it from the computer (not the modem) and plug it into the router where it says internet/modem or soemthing like that. then in one of the otehr thernet ports plug in the second ethernet cable and plug the other end into your desktop where the modem was plugged in at.

after that it should also have instrctions for connecting the rest of your computers through wireless.

also, what store are you buying this from? they hsould have someone around that can help you and make sure you get everything you need (which is a router and an ethernet cable, dont' let them talk you into extra stuff you don't need).

oh and if you have problems setting it up their support can usually help but still post the problem here just in case.

oh yea, how many computers do you plan on connecting to it? also, are they laptops or desktops and for the laptops what model?

I'm buying it from walmartxD And it's going to be connected to the desktop and the laptop during the weekends. Desktop-everyday laptop-weekends. And Andro said that any router will do, so like a cheap n-router will be just as good as an expensive g-router. Can you confirm this?

yea, a cheap router should do. and actually G would be cheaper than N usually. also, unless you have a connection around 50mb/s you can probably just use a G router.

do you know if your laptop already has a wireless card (most have them built in now)

oh okay, so the $30-$40 dollar one will do fine right?
And yea, the laptop has it built in. My sisters able to get connection at her campus, and when at home, there's a lot of wifi connections, but they're all secured except one. But unfortunetly, it's very hard to get an internet connection with that one.
