Some laptops cannot display the same image on both screens, so it's either one or the other. For my Acer laptop, to switch to a projector, I need to press Fn + F5. Try it.

That is the same for our IBM laptops at work and my HP at home.

Oh I had a look around at the laptop today.. with your hint I had a look for the Fn keys and the symbols around it and find a button next to the video cord thing that turned on the projector~
