From the reports I've read, it appears to actually be new strain of Influenza A(H1N1), which at the moment appears to have derived from avian, swine, AND human strains of A(H1N1). Evolution, baby.

but in all seriousness, it's not that big of a deal... if you take care of yourself, you wont die from it unless you have an uber weak immune system... the media's making a huge deal out of it to get ratings...

I'm actually trying to catch it. Not only for bragging right (OMG NO WAI U GOT DA INFAMOUS SWINE FLU???), but if one kid gets it, our school is out. I'm willing to take the hit, for my classmates. 
And yeah, bird flu was given to pigs in Vietnam who were shipped to Mexico, then people got it after that. |
