iPod help
Okay all you technological people, I need advice, feedback, help…. whatever you got.
Long story short – today is my stepson’s birthday; I decided to replace his iPod and got him a new one. His brother wants to buy him a FM transmitter so that he can listen to his iPod in his truck.
So, I went on-line and was looking for one, but only found about 3 or 4 to choose from. All of them have kind of hinkle-hinkle reviews. Most people either praise them and say they are great or most people say they are a piece of crap. I did not find one FM transmitter that had mostly good review.
So, can any of you recommend one? Used one that worked well? Or anything like that?
I also read in some of the reviews where the FM transmitter actually “fried†the iPod. Anyone have this happen?

I'm sure there's a lot better stuff now but if his trucky has a tape player, you can get one of those converters. My friend has an ipod and thats how he listens to it in his car.
Other than that, I'm no help x.x I don't even want an iPod.

all the FM transmitters I've tried were terrible. I've followed all the directions and most of the time, depending if the transmitter is in a good mood or not, it will always have a fuzzy feedback. I suggest sticking with the mp3 adaptor (the one with the tape casette on the other end audio jack). Most new cars today would come with an audio input so youd be able to stick an audio jack from your ipod into your car.
Then again, these also get so-so reviews, but they've always worked like they're suppose to for me.

I got an FM tuner for my iPod. But I returned it. It irritated the heck out of me. When it was broadcasting, I could hear the "mosquito" noise (a high pitched frequency that only people under a certain age are able to hear). Plus, the sound quality just wasn't that good.
I know there are ways to play the iPod from your car using alternative methods. They are all plugs of some point. Depending on how old the car is, there is an old cassette plug. If you have a newer car, then there should be something for that too (forget what it's called--an audio jack?)

The problem with FM transmitters is that their signal can be interfered by the original radio stations, so the key is to find a frequency that has a weak or no signal in your area. Otherwise the radio will jump back and fourth between the iPod and the original radio station.
As for which one to use, I found Belkin transmitters pretty good.

We live in a pretty rural area, so there is a lot of "dead-space" in between stations. So, I am not worried about trying to find an empty frequency. That part of the transmitter's problems should not affect us.
And yeah, so far from what I have researched, it looks like Belkin is winning out.

I second Belkin. I've used it too and it's good... but there's like a bajillion radio stations around here so it's hard to find "dead space".
And there's also if you go near someone else using a FM transimitter you hear their music. Hearing Chinese traditional music while listening to your favorite song... is just... no.
