I say roo-men, i.e. (kanga)roo-men.

Like the word route, pronounced roo-t. However, it seems that some people (I guess from The United States of America, although I may be wrong) pronounce route differently too. But we won't get into whether the English or the Americans invented the English language

The word 'rout,' defined as a "chaotic and disorderly retreat," is closer in accuracy in terms of prefix in this instance, as 'rout' ends in a single consonant while 'route' ends in a consonant and vowel dual combination. Where as 'route' has many possible pronunciations, it is widely accepted that 'rout' is correctly pronounced as \ˈrau̇t\, or r-owt, regardless of nationality.
