I haven't seen anything like that before. Perhaps it's a programming bug, because I swear I once managed to look at myself from underground.

I'd say something's happened to your graphics card recently. From what I see, those colors are happening because your graphics cards suddenly become incapable of rendering the game's textures. I suggest you either update your graphics drivers or update your hardware. Probably the former, since I assume you can see your desktop just fine.
